All season long, Max Greenfield has been making New Girl his comedy bitch. Stealing scenes, breaking hearts and picking up fans faster than you can say "McMouse." On that subject, Max's character Schmidt hit a new high in last week's episode as he learned the hard way (well, not so hard any more) that Cece's foreign roommate is off limits!

And as Max revealed during our interview, his bone remains broken throughout these final episodes, meaning his connection with Cece has to grow in other ways. In addition to learning about Schmidt's crippled member, we talked spin videos, fat suits and the secret pain Max has been harboring for weeks.

Insider.com: First of all, Schmidt & Nadia's date was incredible. Where did that list of her likes come from?
Max Greenfield: She was so funny. I loved that scene too. What happens a lot is this: We'll have our writers on set and they'll seed jokes and you just riff on those. Especially in that situation, where it's a list. That was definitely a collaboration and it was so amazing to watch.

VIDEO - Behind New Girl's Opening Credits

Insider: Will Schmidt be all healed up from his penis injury in tonight's episode?
Max: [sighs] No. This is not a joke. Schmidt's penis is in bad shape. And now that it's broken, he is forced to communicate with Cece as his only line of defense. They can't just go and have sex. Now he actually has to talk to her and you can only imagine how that goes.

Insider: I hear tale of a retirement home, what's that about?
Max: Well, because everything turns him on and any movement down there is excruciatingly painful, Cece decides to take Schmidt to see her grandmother at the retirement home because she thinks there's no way anything is going to excite him there. That's how he's lured into that world.

Insider: Well, if anyone could get turned on in a retirement home...
Max: Oh yea, it just keeps getting worse and worse. I'm going to level with you though, his penis is really banged up and it's emotional and he's trying to get through it in as positive a way as he can – but Schmidt is crippled.

Insider: I'm actually glad to hear it because I love him with Cece and think they needed this to cement the longevity of their relationship.
Max: Totally. I think the writers do a great job in making these relationships real and the way it all plays out between now and the finale is about as good as it gets.

RELATED - Get Jess' Look

Insider: I have to say, the four of you have really developed an amazing rapport with one another this season. Scenes with Jess, Schmidt, Nick and Winston are kind of magical.
Max: Thanks, that's so nice to hear. I agree. We're a group of people who are very clear on what we’re doing and are happiest trying to make a scene as funny and perfect as it can possibly be. We're working towards a common goal and there's no B.S. It's very rare you find yourself surrounded by actors like this.

Insider: And you've done an amazing job promoting the show through viral marketing. The workout video was tremendous.
Max: Funny you should bring that up, as a result of doing the workout video, I'm actually setting up a charity event for May 5 where I will be teaching two spinning classes at SoulCycle in West Hollywood. You can pay to buy a bike, which supports Milk + Bookies, and it's going to be great.

Insider: Are you a proficient spinner?
Max: I haven't spun in a while, but I used to do it religiously, so I think it should come back to me. Like riding a bicycle [laughs]. I know what I'm doing, so I hope we make some decent money for charity.

Insider: What made you sweat more: the workout video or dancing as Fat Schmidt?
Max: Dancing in the Schmidt Fat Suit. It's crazy. That thing is so heavy and bulky and all sorts of wrong.

Insider: You know this puts you in the same club as Fat Monica and Fat Betty Draper, right?
Max: Oh no! Believe me, we're not at Monica status yet – but if that's where we’re headed, I'll be one happy guy.

PICS - TV's Best "Fat" Characters

Insider: Barring some insane aneurism, New Girl will be back for a second season, so what would you like to see for Schmidt?
Max: It's so crazy. I feel like I’ve been so blessed and am in such a great place right now that it's hard to say, "I want to do this!" [laughs] But it would be so cool to really go into Schmidt's office and dig into his work life more. I know some people have talked about meeting all the characters' families eventually. I would love that.

Insider: As a result of Schmidt's vanity, you had to endure a very strict diet and workout regimen. What was it like the first day you were able to stop?
Max: This is a touchy topic – if you noticed in the last few episodes, I couldn't take it anymore. There's definitely difference in my body [laughs] – it's really sad. I don't like talking about it [laughs] but I just couldn't do the diet any more. The last three weeks of shooting were so intense, I couldn't get to the gym, I was nervous about ending the season, there was food everywhere – and I ate it all.

Insider: You're lucky there were no reshoots!
Max: I know! That was my biggest fear! They call, "Max, we need you back at the studio" ... "Um, I booked a movie, I'm in Europe! Leave me alone!" [laughs]

New Girl airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
