Seinfeld was the most popular sitcom for a stretch of the '90s and 14 years after its final episode, the show still has viewers cracking up at its reruns.

For this Pop Culture Rewind, we take you back to when Seinfeld was just starting out in 1990, shortly after the show aired its pilot, The Seinfeld Chronicles.

In the featured video above, we take a behind-the-scenes look at one of Seinfeld's early episodes. Although Jerry Seinfeld had been an established comedian for a while, the show was his big break into television, and his mother was in the audience that day.

While his mom was very proud of him, she didn't take credit for her television star son's sense of humor, which she said stems from Seinfeld's father.

"That's not easy for her, you know?" Seinfeld joked of his mother's interview. "She's a mom. Mom's are not in show business—they're in the mom business. Suddenly you put a camera and a mic in their face—they don't want to be interviewed unless their house has been washed away by a flood."

Seinfeld would go on to have a very successful nine-season run from 1990 to 1998. While Seinfeld's mother may not have had the show business thing down, he certainly did.
