On Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition, Jacqui underwent a complete transformation, shedding 200 pounds in the course of a year. While her journey certainly had its obstacles along the way, she made it through and now her life has changed in "every way possible," as she tells The Insider.
At her former weight of 355 pounds, Jacqui's life was limited in many ways but now she has recaptured everything that she loves about life.
"I feel like I'm more confident, and I've always loved people but I shied away from them 'cause I didn't feel good about myself," she said of her post-transformation life. "I'm making new friends; I'm connecting with people on their health--I never would have thought people would come to me for diet and exercise advice; and my husband and I are just more active."
Losing 200 pounds in a year is by no means a simple feat, and Jacqui met hindrances along the way, specifically when it came to the mental side of things.
"The hardest part for me was really wrapping my head around the mental changes," she revealed. "You can change your behavior, you can change you diet, and you can exercise a lot, but if you don't change your mind about who you are as a person then you'll just go right back to your old habits once the goal is met."
Although she had been overweight since age 14, when looking back at her obese life Jacqui wonders how she was able to function. "I wonder, 'How did my body function?' [and] 'How did I walk around?'" she reflected. "If you told me to carry a 200-pound man on my back and walk around and live life, I couldn't do it."
Her weight loss has not only revolutionized her life and helped her resolve previous health issues but has also made way for Jacqui to potentially become a mother. "We are good to go to try for a baby," she said. "We hope for really good news in 2013!"
