It's safe to say that Max Greenfield had a pretty great morning today -- the New Girl scene stealer just found out that he's nominated for an Emmy in the Best Supporting Actor, Comedy category!

"We got phone calls, there was screaming and then there were tears, and then there was disbelief, and then I went to work," he tells The Insider, clearly ecstatic.

Max is currently in New York filming They Came Together with Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, where he experienced a "surreal" moment today courtesy of Rudd.

"I walked into the hair and makeup trailer, and when I got there, Paul Rudd kind of turned to me and goes, 'Hey man, congratulations on the Emmy,' and I thought, this is an interesting day we're having," he laughs. "Two years ago, just auditioning for guest stars and two years later, walking into a movie set and Paul Rudd, who you so admire, is like congratulating you on your Emmy nomination ... we've come a long way in a short time."

One of the first people to congratulate him?

Fellow Emmy nominee and New Girl costar Zooey Deschanel.

"I'm so happy for her," he says sincerely. "She really deserves this more than anyone, and she really put herself in front the show and worked so hard, and I think I've ultimately benefited a lot from a lot of her hard work."
