First Look: 'Breaking Amish'
In 2004, UPN aired Amish in the City -- a reality show that followed five teenagers on Rumspringa, a period of running around all Amish can partake in after turning 16. The show devolved into a poorly-produced version of The Real World (sex, drugs and fighting) that didn't do justice to this serious experience of the people who let their lives be documented.

Now, TLC is getting in on the action with Breaking Amish, a nine-episode series that follows five Amish/Mennonites as they move to New York City and decide what kind of life they want to live.
Personally, I found the trailer unexpectedly moving and instantly felt compassion for the women featured in the project. Here's hoping the whole series turns out to be as thought-provoking and classy.
Breaking Amish premieres September 9 at 10 p.m. on TLC.
