With great power comes great responsibility, and with a weekly national platform many shows have used television's stage to engage in global conversations about race, gender roles, sexuality and ethics.

But when it came time to decipher the 25 Most Powerful Shows of the Last 25 Years, other paradigms were considered. Like, the ability to revolutionize an industry (as Glee did), redefine our vocabulary (as The Simpsons did) or inspire country-wide collegiate courses (as Buffy the Vampire Slayer did).
Let us not forget that America's Most Wanted actually helped capture over 1,100 fugitives since its 1988 debut, Curb Your Enthusiasm saved someone from life in prison and research has proven that ER made Americans healthier.
