On the afternoon of November 28, I caught up with Necar Zadegan, who plays Dr. Bandari on The CW's Emily Owens M.D., to talk about the shows upcoming storylines and hopeful future on the network. Sadly, mere hours after our chat, the plug was pulled on the doc dramedy, ensuring the 13th episode would not be a mid-season finale, but a series finale.

But, for the loyal fans who've come to love the hospital hybrid drama/comedy over the last few weeks, there's good news to be found as Necar told me there's some pretty great stuff coming up for the doctors of Denver Memorial!

After admitting that it's been a "slow burn" with Dr. Bandari, Necar said, "It's the kind of character where you don't want to give too much away too soon because she's such a hard ass. You kind of want to hang on to that so it's a surprise when you get to see the layers underneath."

"We're coming to a really interesting part in the season because that slow burn is kind of unraveling and we're really getting to know the characters more intimately. You know their private lives versus their personas in the hospital. That's really cool."

Necar also was excited for the fans to see a big surprise coming with the doc -- one that surprised her as well! "They're the kind of people who have real lives and emotional lives that dictate why they are the way they are at work," she said. "And seeing the other side to Bendari will be exciting. I think that's really the stuff fans care about with the characters once you get past the "who they are" stages.

When all is said and done, this has been an amazing experience regardless of the unexpectedly short shooting schedule. "Regardless of what happens, we've had a great time. Luckily, everybody loves the show and every script has been better than the last."

Emily Owens M.D. airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
